Design Director
Blue Coast Web, a small, creative, and growing web design & software development company in San Rafael is looking for a Senior Web Designer / Design Director to join their growing team. The position will primarily be responsible for creating beautifully crafted and sophisticated interaction designs (for web sites and internet applications), but will also need to work with clients and oversee implementation by our in-house team of developers bringing your concepts to life. Candidate must have several years of experience in the interaction design field.
Position is full-time contract to hire.
Qualifications:
We are seeking someone who can:
- Be a leader and lead the design efforts as needed.
- Take charge of all aspects of the design process with clients.
- Work well with existing brands, or develop new ones, to create compelling interfaces.
- Understand the nuances of fine design and be able to craft intelligent user experiences.
- Draw on their experience in designing and creating web sites/intranet/extranets, and web-based applications.
- Develop logical information architectures and user workflows.
- Knows the value of user-centered design practices, and can integrate such processes into their designs.
- Take a project and run with it - enjoys client interaction.
- Work on-site at clients' offices, if project requires it.
- Understand but not necessarily code html, css, jsp, etc.
- Understand the meaning of and mitigate scope creep.
- Works well and plays well with a fun group of kids (22 to 30-something year-olds) from backgrounds in fine art, scuba diving, rock climbing, engineering, artificial intelligence, and the art of eating good food.
- Occasionally play with dogs in the office.
Education:
Fine Arts college degree appreciated, but not required. More important is your hands-on experience.
Experience:
Must have experience working with and designing for small, medium, and large scale interaction design projects. This means leading the *design efforts* on these projects - not implementing them.
Location:
Must be willing to commute to San Rafael. This is an absolute requirement of the position.
Compensation:
This is a contract to hire position. Rate completely depends on experience of the applicant. We are very competitive and fair with our compensation.
